Natacha Atlas. Habibi: Classics and Collaborations

Natacha Atlas is a name synonymous with that musical meeting point between the East and the West. Beginner's Guide to Scandinavia

3CD, released 2011.

4* review in The Sunday Times, Clive Davis

"Let the arguments begin. Even a triple-disc survey cannot begin to be comprehensive — admirers of the pioneering saxophonist Jan Garbarek, for instance, will argue that he ought to have at least one track of his own — but, as a snapshot of a sprawling region, the playlist throws up more than enough treats and surprises to satisfy all but the most puritanical souls. The jazz and experimental disc leans towards the more ambient end of the spectrum, but EST make the cut alongside the likes of Bugge Wesseltoft and Nils Petter Molvaer. The accordionist Maria Kalaniemi leads the charge on the hypnotic folk segment and the idiosyncratic pop section sweeps away all those Abba clichés."

"A pastor's smorgasbord as opposed to a curate's egg this one." Harry Guerin, RTÉ

Voted one of fRoots Best Albums of 2011.
